What is wireless Internet?
Wireless Internet service provides broadband Internet access to your home or business without depending on the telephone or cable company to carry it to you. There are no phone lines and no modems, so your
connection is always on.
What does "always on" mean?
"Always on" means that you are always connected to the Internet, with no dialing in and no busy signals. It takes seconds instead of minutes to check your email. If you want to surf, you don't have to wait to connect first. As soon as you turn on your computer you are connected, and you stay connected until you
choose to turn the computer off. So "always on" means faster Internet!
How does wireless Internet work?
Wireless Internet works just like a walkie-talkie. Instead of using telephone lines to connect to the Internet, Oglecom installs a small radio transceiver to your house or office building. The transceiver communicates with Oglecom antennas located in our operating region near your home. Both
sides can transmit, and both sides can receive.
What equipment do I need to receive this service?
Oglecom will loan you a radio transceiver, so all you need is a computer equipped with an ethernet port. Most newer computers have this item, but if yours does not, we can add one to your computer for a small fee. Also, we strongly recommend that you purchase a router/firewall. This item helps protect your computer and allows you to connect more than one computer to the Internet at a time.
How fast is it?
We have several plans to choose from, so the speed is up to you. Speeds can burst as high as 3 mbps. That is over 100 times faster than dial-up service!
Is there a long-term commitment?
Unlike some Internet service providers, we make all of our wireless plans available on a month-to-month basis. Service can be cancelled or changed at any time with no penalties.
Can I use this service if I rent my home or office?
Yes you can. However, we need the building owner's written permission before we will install the radio transceiver.
Does this service use satellite?
No. Unlike satellite systems, this service uses microwave technology, and the distances between your radio transceiver and our antenna is much shorter than that between a satellite receiver and a satellite. Thus, Oglecom's wireless Internet provides a better connection than satellite Internet service, and Oglecom's service doesn't suffer from the delay problems that are common with satellite systems.
Installation Costs:
Depending on your particular installation situation, the set-up fee is normally $169 and includes the labor and standard parts. The radio transceiver remains the property of Oglecom and is loaned to you while you are using our service. For a free site survey and estimate of your installation cost, contact us.
